Bonsai Module I
Modern behavioral neuroscience experiments often require researchers to synchronize multiple data streams, control different devices, precisely deliver stimuli, and run experiments in closed-loop settings. Managing all of this across different hardware and software environments can quickly become challenging.
Bonsai is an open-source reactive programming language designed to make these workflows easier to build, modify, and scale. It can be used to acquire and process data from multiple systems ā including cameras, sensors, sound recordings, and imaging setups ā while simultaneously controlling devices such as feeders, motors, or stimulus delivery systems.
Our Bonsai Workshop Series is a hands-on online course organized in three modules of increasing difficulty, allowing participants to progressively move from the fundamentals of Bonsai to more advanced and interactive experimental workflows.
Module I ā Introduction to Bonsai
The first module introduces the basic logic and syntax of Bonsai and requires no previous programming experience. Participants learn how to build simple workflows, track animals during experiments, detect their presence in regions of interest (ROIs), perform basic logical operations, and implement simple closed-loop paradigms.
