Transatlantic Behavioural Neuroscience School 2025

Aug 11-22nd 2025, Buenos Aires, Argentina
For the fourth edition of our summer school we are coming back to Argentina – with new ideas, new tools, and new people onboard. But the school’s goal remains the same as always: to give you knowledge, skills, and courage to address your research questions and free you from constraints.
And there are multiple constraints in behavioural neuroscience. The equipment used in behavioural setups can be prohibitively expensive; it may have a limited set of functionalities and may be impossible to fix if broken. But there is an alternative: thanks to the rapid development of open-source tools we can build our own devices, fine-tune them, and modify them when needed. Open software also allows us to analyze our data at a level of detail previously impossible to achieve.
With those tools in hand, you can put your wildest ideas to the test – and nothing is going to stop you.
During our school you will learn how to deliver stimuli or modify the environment in which the animal is embedded with Arduino-based devices and Bonsai code; you will design and 3D-print cases and holders for your instruments. And then you will apply Deeplabcut and write your analysis code to extract as much information as possible from your data.
But that’s not everything. At TBNS, you will listen to fascinating lectures and interact with speakers, who explored bold ideas and made their own unique career paths. You will look at what behavior is through many lenses. Most importantly though, you will meet people with similar interests and goals. And you may become a part of our global Open Lab community, and help us to spread the knowledge further!
PhD students and early-stage researchers are especially encouraged to apply. We provide partial or full travel grants and fee waivers for participants who cannot cover the costs.
Our confirmed guests (as of today) are:

- Karl Farrow (NERF)
